How to clean residue from screen

So about a week or two ago I'm outside and look down at my phone and it has a dab of some sticky stuff on the screen it looks and feels like tree sap but I don't know it could have been anything. I didn't use the phone till I had a chance to clean it and used water and light dish soap. It seemed fine after that but over the last day or two I'm noticing a lot of smudging on the screen and it seems to be kind of localized, like in the area where that sticky stuff got on it in the first place yet larger than the original dab that probably got spread out when I first cleaned it.

I clean the screen again with water and dish soap and it looks fine but after touching the screen for a while that same spot is smudged up again. I think it's probably residue so any ideas how to get rid of it. Thanks.

i would try a microfiber cloth and lens cleaner from sunglass hut -

if that doesn't work - as a last resort i would put a little drop of rubbing alcohol on a soft tissue and gently dab the affected area to dissolve and remove the residue.

Does it look like the same kind of smudge as it was at first? How long after you clean it with soap does it show up again?

At first it was a dab of sticky stuff and I cleaned it and didn't think about it again until a couple of days ago I noticed the screen smudging...so today when I noticed the smudging was localized I put the smudging and tree sap or whatever it was together...after I cleaned the screen today it looked good and then I used it and when I looked for the smudging it was there

I use a q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol, clean the screen with that and then quickly dry it off with a microfiber or soft tissue. Makes it look like new

I use Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes on all my screens, computers, tablet and phone.

I think the "smudging" you are experiencing is "soap scum".
