I want to create a folder for my personal images separated from the gallery where all images get saved automatically.

Get a program like ES File Explorer. Then use it to create a folder in the DCIM folder. From there move your personal stuff to it.
Dont mess with the camera default folder as other apps may also reference it.
You could also hook your phone to your computer and then use explorer on your computer to add a folder inside DCIM. Then move your personal stuff to it.
