How do I delete a disabled gmail accoun off my phone?

My old work email has been disabled. When I try to log in to delete the gmail account I cannot as the account has been disabled! There is a persistent error message saying account action required that I can't get rid of as it requires me to sign in to a disabled account! Any suggestions?

Settings>Accounts>Google>tap on the account you want to remove>tap on menu (three dots, upper right hand corner)>tap on remove account.

First, do you have another Google or gmail address ready to use, if so, open the main settings app, find accounts, at the top, there should be a plus sign,or hit the menu button, and add your new gmail account, then tap the old one, and find the option to remove from the menu on that page.

Now, if you need a new gmail account, open chrome, and enter account sign in on the search bar, once you find the page for that, there should be can option to create a new account. Follow prompts, then instructions above.
