How do I delete my emails without them reappearing in my inbox?

I have a Galaxy S5 and after I delete my emails they keep reappearing in my inbox. Every time I refresh my emails everything I've deleted shows up in my inbox again. I've read other responses about this and none of them have worked for me. I don't understand or know anything about servers, IMAP, POP3, etc. I use gmail only. I have no other email accounts. I have tried going into my settings and I can't find anything that looks like it will help me. Someone replied on another thread that swiping the emails to the left instead of checking the boxes works but that hasn't worked for me and they still keep appearing.

I'm guessing the GMail app - which is one of the reasons I uninstalled it. Try installing Email. The interface is a bit different, but it's easy to use once you get to know it. (You do want your gmail account set up for IMAP [you do that at the GMail site] because it's more efficient, and a phone needs efficiency.)
