How do I disable widgets?

I've seen people saying how they disabled their news, weather and social media widgets. I dump them in the trash can off of the main screen but when I check running apps through settings it still shows them running. Even if I disable from there, they eventually start back up.

there is no way to disable them.

you cant fully disable the apps from running; deleting the widgets just deletes the widget. if you dont use those features (or just dont want them running all of the time), go to menu>settings>data manager>data delivery>social applications and set it to update over wi-fi only.
