How do I dismiss notifications quickly?

I'm getting tired of hitting the ellipsis and then the trash can for all my notifications. Isn't there a way to "swipe" them away after reading them?

Swipe up does not work consistently. After receiving a new notification, when I swipe up, the screen jiggles and a blue crescent shines on the bottom of the screen. If I turn the screen off with my palm, press the top button to see the clock, rotate the bezel counter-clockwise to see notifications ... only then does swipe up work.

You are talking about 2 different things. When you first get a notification it is a pop up. And you are correct. You cannot swipe up however, if you are just scrolling through you can swipe up.

I remember seeing the word "pop-up" in one of the settings, however, when I went to look around, Gear Manager required an update. I said OK and Gear Manager disappeared forever. After waiting 30 minutes, I reinstalled it from Galaxy Apps. I do not see any setting allowing me to alter the behavior of these pop-ups. How do I get rid of them?

Turning off Auto Show Details may help:
Samsung Gear app (on phone) > Notifications > Auto Show Details

On your notifications settings on your gear app on your phone, you have "auto show details" turned on. This means when a notification pops up initially it will take you into the full message. If this is turned off, you will typically only see what app and who your message is from. From there you can tap it to read the full message or swipe up to dismiss it.
With "auto show details" on you actually need to reset the notification to go to the dismiss screen, because back will only go to the watchface since you automatically skipped that step.

just checked this and even with the auto show details off, I can't swipe up to dismiss. Perhaps they changed this in the firmware you have, and that the rest of us are hoping/waiting for? With auto show details off, only difference is that I can't read the details of notification.

Oh. I could be wrong. It's what I assumed. Guess I didn't test it. I actually have "auto show details" turned on.

Really the notifications need a little work. It's almost there, but little things like this keep it from being an ideal experience. There needs to be a consistent means of quickly dismissing.

Exactly my thoughts. For me it would be perfect if they just added one simple addition: swiping up on all notification views dismisses it. Simple.

I just switched from ios. Notifications worked much better on that. If theres a way to only enable notifications of email, messages and phone calls on certain people i cant find it. Thats pretty basic. Also i sometimes get notifications of an incoming call that only shows phone number of someone i have a contact for. Using a note7
