How do I edit read-only contacts on the Galaxy S4?

Editing Contacts in Galaxy S4

Some of my Contacts (that I entered) have become 'read only' for some reason and won't let me edit them. How can I edit those read-only contacts & why did they change to read only?

Are they from some third party service like Whatsapp or Facebook? If so, those aren't editable since they are created by the app based on your contacts there or your own 'normal' contact list.

Thanks for the reply.
No, I think they are all contacts that I entered using the built-in Contacts app on the phone unless some app is syncing that I don't know about.

Is there an icon associated with those contacts? (Maybe a screenshot would help, just blurring out any specific info like full names, numbers, e-mails, etc.)
