How do I factory reset my rooted EL30 Epic?

I'm having a horrible problem with my phone constantly rebooting. I've come to the conclusion that a fresh start is the only way to make this go away.

I've read that using the phone's built in factory reset can brick your phone if rooted so I haven't tried that. However, I have tried the factory reset option from ACS recovery but nothing happens. My data isn't wiped and there are no changes that I can find.

What should I do?

UPDATE: Wiping data with the latest CWM5 worked, the problem was ACS Recovery.

You need to follow factory reset instructions (above in the sub forums, the very first sticky) by using ODIN and reinstalling the EL30 tar.

Every custom ROM I've looked at says that you should wipe data before you install the ROM. So you are saying that I have to install EL30 in order to wipe data and install a custom ROM? There's no other way?

What is the name of the "very first sticky?" (Just in case it isn't the very first one anymore)
Thanks ;)

For anyone who is reading this, wiping data with the latest CWM5 worked, the problem was ACS Recovery.

Whenever you do a factory reset you are gonna lose all data that is stored on your phone.
