How do I find any of the so called "1,000,000" Wi-Fi hotspots in Raleigh

How do I find where the nearest "certified" hotspot is? I have been using Fi for several weeks now around Raleigh NC (soon to get Google Fiber) and it has never connected to one.

Also I am very upset that the VPN only works on the "certified" hotspots. What good is protected Wi-Fi data if it never works.

Well the VPN is for when it auto connects to open ones. If you willingly connect to one it doesn't since it figures you trust that wifi.

Either way -- I am not sure if there is a way. I would suggest contact Google Fi Support. When I was testing them their support was top-notch :).

So many of the open wi-Fi is not encrypted over the air so it needs a VPN to be secure even if I trusted the provider.

Thanks. Google should really be providing a comprehensive map but this is a good start.

The problem is that even Google doesn't know where they all are. The WiFi assistant will sense an open WiFi network without a captive portal and will connect you then open the VPN connection, it is not working from a database of known open networks. The best way to help others know about the networks is to participate in the crowd-sourced map that was linked before.

I am back on a Nexus 5x but with Verizon unlimited data this time. Is seems like all the wifi around here has a tos page that keep WiFi assistant from working.
