how do I fix LG V30 error - 'unfortunately settings has stopped'

This has just started this morning, every time I try settings I get 'unfortunately settings has stopped'. Can this be fixed without a factory reset?

Thanks, I'd found those suggestions, they're what prompted my query on here.
1. restarting didn't work.
2. clear cache of settings,? my apps are listed under settings and I don't know how to bypass settings to get there.
3. clear cache of device? my storage is listed under settings too, so same issue again.
4. wipe cache partition? the only option I got on holding power + volume was a factory reset.

Anyway that's what I did, and it worked.
