How do I fix my gmail widget on my Samsung S5 Neo?

How to fix gmail widget on Samsung S5 Neo

I just recently bought a Samsung S5 Neo and I have the gmail widget in my home screen. Every time I get a new email I get a notification (sound) but on the widget itself there's no number that indicates I have new mail. If I don't see it I forget I have an email. Please help!
