How do I fix my voicemail and text messages?

I have the new Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with AT&T as my carrier.
Every time I get a text message I get a notification saying that I have a new voicemail. I can't access my AT&T email for some reason (this isn't a problem though since I can use my phone's voicemail receiver or have Google take my voicemail). I also seem to not be receiving texts until much later or when I send a message. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Are the voicemails related at all to the text messages? Is it possible the voicemails are being transcribed and then being sent to you as a text?

I am not sure. I can't access the voicemails, they are being sent to my AT&T voicemail which doesn't exist (or I can't access for some reason). The texts I receive are definitely text messages. Is it possible that I am also receiving an audio recording of the text I get as a voicemail?

Are you able to log into your AT&T account on the AT&T website? See if there are any general voicemail/notification settings for your account that you can modify there.
