How do I get banner notifications on Android 6.0?

I was using Light Flow before, but after the Android 6.0 upgrade Light Flow began displaying so many bugs I had to uninstall it. Apparently Light Flow displayed banner notifications for Whatsapp, because since I uninstalled Light Flow, I don't get the banner notification anymore when somene sends me a message. Is there a way to get banner notifications for Whatsapp (possibly other apps as well)?

Welcome to the forums. Have you looked at the notification settings for what'sapp in Settings>apps?
