How do I get my contacts back?

I just moved to a Nexus 5 from a Galaxy 3. I had a lot of contacts with pics and custom rings and I don't know even where to begin on getting them transferred over. I really don't want to do it manually (especially since that won't bring over my pics).

You can sync all of that on the Galaxy 3 tobyou Google account and restore on the Nexus 5 when you log back into your account.

On the S3 go into system settings - accounts - Google. Sync the contacts. Next, open the Google Photos app and back those up to your account. The ringtones can be backed up using Google Drive.

When you setup the Nexus 5 go back into the accounts settings and sync contacts. For photos, you can open the app and everything will be avaialbe.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Ok thank you. I apparently don't have google photos. I tried to open it and it said I needed to install. I don't think my contact pics are in my camera stuff anyway, they weren't there to begin with (one pic is from three phones ago). The ringtones I don't understand what you mean by drive, why would they be on drive? And how would drive connect them to each contact? What I am concerned about is the associated ringtone per contact. As in my husband has a different tone from my best friend etc so I can tell who is calling before I get to my phone (or just not answer). Honestly I don't really care what ringtones they even are, I just need different ones for different people and don't want to do it all by hand again. I only used drive once, I don't see how it would have my ringtones attached to my contacts if my contacts are elsewhere.

I tried it anyway and I am getting nothing. :( I thought I would at least get names/numbers even if it dropped the pics/ringtones, but it has zero info after doing what you said on both the S3 and the Nexus 5.

Ok, I got my .vcf from my S3 onto my laptop. But I can't find where to drop it on my Nexus. Since the Nexus has no contacts I can't just search for the current .vcf. (Why is this so hard?) Actually I can't see any files on my Nexus.

I kinda like the Nexus, but this is getting ridiculous. I am about ready to just put the sim back in my S3.

Ok. I think I finally got it. Took hours of searching. But here is how I did it:

S3>contacts> I=I (button on the bottom left)> Import/Export> Export to USB storage>OK

Connect the S3 to my laptop (windows). Search the connected phone from my laptop for ".vcf"
Drag .vcf to my laptop.

Plug Nexus into laptop.
On Nexus:
Drag down top and touch notification that says "USB for charging"
Select "File Transfers"

Open Nexus on laptop, open "download"
Drag .vcf from laptop to download folder

On nexus
Go to settings, download.
Open vcf.
Wait for it to put it all on nexus.

Not sure if it got my ringtones. But it got every number, every pic/avatar thing, every note (I like to put comments on who it is sometimes, or what each number is specifically).
