How do I get the sounds when I receive text messages on the s 9+?

When I get text messages my s 9+ doesn't make any sound. How do I get the sound?

go to settings in the message app (3 vertical dots, upper right corner) notifications>new messages. make sure the toggle is on. click through to set the sound.
