how do i get Zedge notifications to work on my Note 8?

Just download the notification sound and set it in the appropriate setting or app of your choice. Also, avoid saving them to SD card.

You also might want to move your downloaded notification tones from internal storage/Zedge/notification_sounds to internal storage/notifications folder to give you the option to choose them.
