How do I go from newb to master of my android device

So this is my first android phone. And I just came from a Pre. The Biggest difference right off the bat is that the Pre was really good at completing things in 3 clicks or less. Things like battery percent, radio control, and brightness control were at my finger tips from anywhere, in any app. I kind of wish the homescreen menubar was always on top, even when I am in an app.

I never had to turn off wifi or BT on the pre. It had great power management in that regard. If I leave my house should I turn it off on the evo? I was gonna pay for locale, but it seems like people think its bloated these days and drains the battery.

What are the pros/cons of sense. Do people like friendstream? I am thinking of switching to just dedicated twitter and facebook apps. I like the stock home screen, but some widgets just take up to much space in my opinion.

is there a way to show actual battery percent on the homescreen?!?!?

finally. Whats the deal with apps running? I have figured that most widgets are connected to apps running in the background, like friendstream, but with ATK, why the F is the MP3 store and sprint navigation running when i haven't touched them? I assume open apps in ATK are the ones with the boxes Checked? would it mess things up if i had ATK kill everything?

I have looked for website that has an everything you need to know to manage your android phone, but have no luck. Just seen posts here or there from AC and lifehacker blogs. All help and opinions are appreciated.

Use the phone. Mess with it, change settings. read the manual if you want a more controlled experience.

Sense is great, definitely adds to the Android experience. Friendstream can kill your battery really quickly if you let it auto update. You can change this in the settings.

Took me a while, too. I liked WebOS, but now that I use android, I like it a lot more due to the hardware being awesome and functionality. My suggestion would be to put shortcuts for settings, HTC sense comes with some nice ones under widgets-- settings

I'm a former webos user and first thing you have to do is realize that this is not webos and stop comparing the two and more on, there life without webos. Read the manual or online version its bigger, here's a link:

There are plenty of battery percent monitors in the app catalog, use appbrain.com so you don't have to look at that little catalog on the phone. There's also a program call multi task manager which makes your phone operate similar to OS 4.0. Its basically lets you monitor and switch or kill up to 15 apps with touch of a button.

Remember life moves fast, you need to adjust, adapt move on an enjoy your new Evo and android!

Just wait till you've had your first "oh $hit" moment, like when you think you bricked your phone. Moments like that will get you reading faster and learning more than you ever have before.

The honest to god best way to learn is to read read read the forums. This place has lots of great general knowledge, make sure you check out the hacking forums here too, good stuff. Xda has tons of more in depth knowledge but I will warn you, the guys at Xda are less tolerant of newbs than here. Here's a pro-tip, read the entire thread before posting no matter how long it is. You'll gain plenty of knowledge, someone may already have asked any questions you may have, and it let's you know the trials and tribulations those people may have gone through to get to that 500th posting.

Good luck and welcome!
