How do I hook up a google Chromecast to an element tv that I’ve lost the remote control to

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saying your TV has Chromecast built-in, or that you have the Chromecast dongle plugged into the TV? You don't use the remote control to setup or control a Chromecast -- it's typically done through the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/chromecast/chromecast/?hl=en#topic=3058948

If you've lost the remote, you can typically use any universal remote, since most established brands have a certain code that will make a universal remote work.

Find your remote, or get a new remote.

If you’re plugging a Chromecast into an HDMI port, then casting to it will probably switch the TV to that input, provided you have HDMI-CEC enabled.

But you still need a remote to switch back to broadcast/cable TV.

I remember the times when TVs had buttons that mimic all the remotr functions hidden behind some door on their body. Made things easier for times you lost the remote.
