Yes it does turn green but I have found it to sit on 99 for a very long time... and then hit 100%/Green light

You can also download a free app called Battery Indicator. All it does is put a number in the notification bar telling you what percentage the battery is at, so you'll know when it's full, almost dead and any % in between.

I use it and it is an easy way to see what your battery level is at a glance.
