How do I make it so that I don't see my contacts when I open my phone?

I don't want my contacts to be the first thing I see when password is accepted

When I type in my password, the phone automatically brings up my contact list instead of displaying the home screen. Is there any way to change this?

What device do you have? There maybe a default app launcher for your home screen. You'll likely find out under lock screen options or customize. For my tab when it opens it goes to Google Now automatically.
