Under Recent Labels and All Labels I have 2 entries that I want to remove.

Assuming you mean in your Gmail account, if your email app doesn't have the capability to delete labels (aka folders) you can login to Gmail online and delete labels. That's actually the preferred method. Deletions done online will sync to the phone.
