Look around Motorola Droid Maxx The people who find the exploits used to root phones usually post them there first. (The phone is probably WAY out of warranty already.)

Note: you must downgrade the phone to SU6-7. Back up your phone as well - it will lose everything. Those instructions should be all you need. (I've never done it; I don't want to root my phone.)

The only way to flash a custom rom is to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Unfortunately, this will not give you that.
