It depends on the carrier and the ROM version (you're rooting the ROM, not the phone itself). And, as far as I know, no one has found a root exploit for any S6, but you can check on the appropriate (for your carrier for S6) forum at XDA Forums.

I have the lollipop 5.1.1
Galaxy s6 edge and they are able to root my device. You just have to pay unfortunately.
