How Do I Root My Galaxy S4? (Verizon 4.4.2)

I've been searching literally for hours on how to fully, successfully root my Galaxy S4 with a custom rom/recovery. I've almost bricked my phone twice now trying to figure out just what the heck will work with my phone. I'm hoping you guys can lead me in the right direction with what to do because at this rate, I will have a potato in my hands by tomorrow. I've come to understand that root may be a no-go with some version of the firmware on phones but not too sure exactly which firmwares are the no-gos. Here are the specs on my phone so you guys know what I have to work with:

Carrier: Verizon
Model Number: SCH-I545
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I545VRUFNC5
Hardware Version:I545.07
Security Software Version: MDF v1.0 Release 2

I'm not too sure how much of that is useful but hopefully you guys can help me out here.
