How do I stop getting OTA Update Notification/Firmware Downloads?

Re: How do I stop getting OTA Update Notification/Firmware Downlo

You can also use Root Explorer... the file is called "OTAcerts."

With Root Explorer...
Go to path..... etc/security/otacerts.zip and rename to otacerts.zip.bak

Yeah this can work too ;)

I have read multiple posts in several forums of people who did just that yet the ota pushed to their phones while they slept.

The OP even said it didn't work.

When you rename that file the only thing it does is not allow the update to go through. You will still recieve notifications. Your phone will still download the firmware. The only thing that it stops, is it from being installed. Once the firmware is downloaded Verizon checks to see if it is certified, and because you renamed otacerts, or whatever the filename is, it is unable to do that. Verizon takes this as a failed update, and will just ask you again at a later time to download it again. This method does work to STOP the update only, not the notifications or the actual downloading of the file. Just like the OP I'm looking for a way to stop the whole process from happening, and it looks like the only way to do so, is to flash a custom rom.

Ok, I rooted my phone and get prompts to update. I saw some mention of a radio being removed or updated. Is this a FM radio app or some other type of radio? What can be done to prevent this?

I have a T-mobile phone, but see no reason why this wouldn't work for Verizon or any other droid phone. I used Titanium Backup to backup and subsequently uninstall the "Device management 3.0" application. After that, no more OTA notifications and the phone works fine.

Hope this helps.

Re: How do I stop getting OTA Update Notification/Firmware Downlo

I rooted my Tmo Galaxy S2. Read about the OTA will unroot the phone. I also use Titianium Backup to uninstall "Device Management 3.0". The OTA notification is gone (it was really annoying before popping up every few hours).

However, I tried to install it back through Titanium. It won't install anymore. I guess I won't be getting any more OTA updates. I think I'm okay with that. I need the tethering feature.

The best way for me to update being a rooted user is to find a rooted rom of the update. It's out there. You just have to look. Once I download it, I back up my apps and I install in like any other rom. You should give that a try.

How do u uninstall the device management 3.0? My phone updated firmware and had to go twice to Verizon yesterday to do a wipe. Now getting firmware updates today but caught both before download.

It's for rooted phone. then I use Titanium backup to uninstall device management 3.0. I was hoping to just freeze it but the free verison of TB won't allow.

Re: How do I stop getting OTA Update Notification/Firmware Downlo

My phone was rooted via the revolutioanary method a few months back and I did have titanium backup. Yesterday morning I woke up and and a triagle in the midldle of my screen with a little droid guy and it was locked up. Took it to Verizon and they had to do a wipe the man said. After they wiped, about and hour later I had and update and it locked up again and had to take back to Verizon to do another wipe. Today I already caught 2 firm downloads trying to go thru but stopped. How should I stopped this from possibley locking up my phone, should I delete the PG05IMG.ZIP off my SD or what to be safe with updating.

Remove pg05img from SD.

Flash new updated rom through recovery. Search, in the last few days at least 5 others have had this problem.

I've been getting OTA on another de-bloated stock rom the past 4 days, is this still the go-to ROM to stop this?

Thanks.

"Flash new updated rom through recovery." How is this done???

Re: How do I stop getting OTA Update Notification/Firmware Downlo

Thanks, I will review and see if this makes any sense to me. But should I assume the phone is rooted or since Verizon wiped cache I gues it is back to normal. If normal should I just delete the File on my SD or delete and still try to flash a new ROM?

Try and download a app that requires root like super user and shoot me. If they work then you're still rooted.

If you are then you'll want to flash a new rom since it'll just try and redownload the update and do that again. There are YouTube tutorials on flashing a rom. It's really quite simple. Just make sure to do a app backup before doing it if you don't want to lose game progress and such.

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Device Management - Force Stop
And Never go anywhere near "Check for Updates" :p
