How do I stop Google Play Music from playing by itself?

Google Play Music suddenly starts playing by itself!

I just got a new Vodafone Smart 4 Max phone running KitKat. Since using Google Play Music for the first time, it now randomly appears in my notifications bar for no reason, and today it just suddenly started playing music from a track I hadn't even played on this phone yet!
What's going on?

Do you have Bluetooth turned on or are you connected to a Bluetooth headset?

Bluetooth was on earlier today and connected to a Bluetooth device. However, I turned Bluetooth off after using the device and Google Play Music started playing by itself about an hour or two after turning Bluetooth off.

Maybe try resetting the Play Music app by clearing the data.

I am wondering if this may have anything to do with me using an sd card from a previous phone? I never wiped/formatted the card before slotting it in my new phone.
