how do i stop photos and media from facebook messemger automatically saving to my gallery?

I have a LG G4 and everytime i open my gallery there is a folder called messenger. I delete it every time but it always seems to pop back up every time i open messenger. Media from conversations is automatically downloaded into this folder and it is extremly annoying as it uses up space and saves media from old and deleted chats too, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Use a file manager app to go to that directory, and add a blank text file with the filename ".nomedia" (without the quotes). That will instruct the system to ignore that directory when searching for images to add to the Gallery database.
