How do I stop play store using my data when I don't want it to

I have my Galaxy Note 3 set so that it doesn't allow updates except when I want them. This works fine except for the play store which every few days is putting my data daily usage up. This is when I have not even been on it and seems to be consuming data for no reason.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Data Usage, select the Play Store, and tap Restrict Background Data. Hopefully that won't impact the store's overall function.
