My experience with android file transfer is that the error message will appear, then wait about 30 seconds and the handshake between ur Mac and ur Note 4 will occur and the explorer type window showing what is on your Android will appear.

I hate android file transfer for mac. Unreliable on newer devices and gets in the way of Kies for me.
