If you are on a PC/Windows computer you will need to download the drivers for your Note 3. Once downloaded, connect the Note 3 via USB cable to the computer and open like any other memory device (click on the drive or select the appropriate action from the pop-up).

If you are on a Mac, the same would apply except you will need to install Android File Transfer (available from Google) before connecting.

Alternatively, you can use a wireless solution by downloading Wi-Fi file explorer onto your device and follow the prompts to enter the address into your web browser (PC) and move files without connecting (wired) or installing drivers. There are other apps that can also do this (AirDroid for example), so take a look around the Play Store and see what works best for your needs.

How about trying Samsung's own app that literally emulates / mirrors your phones screens for you to work/play on your larger computer monitor. No lag and you can work with apps, download / upload files, take screen shots, etc. You can use WiFi or a USB cable. What is this app you ask: why it's SideSync 3.0 available on Google play. I used to be an avid user of Airdroid though you cannot screen mirror unless root and wanted to keep it simple! Peace
PS: no WiFi network lag!

I think you should have several methods such as below.
1. Transfer file with help of some cloud service. For example, dropbox, google drive, ...
2. treat Note 3 as a storage device and access files directly from Note 3.
3. Use some apps, such as Mail or other IM apps, to transfer data to a computer.

I've been using air droid for years no cables no rooting you can transfer files to or from the computer. It's a free app in the play store
