how do I turn off the drop down notifications?

I know this has probably been asked a million times but I couldn't find my answer. When I get a text it shows both on the edge screen and in a drop down notification. I think this is super unnecessary and defeats the purpose of the edge screen...so is there any way for me too doable the drop down n notification?

I'm AT&T with lollipop, go into messages, then settings, then notifications, uncheck the pop up message.

How can you stop fb notifications from popping up but still let pop up on the edge screen? Kitkat

Same question. I have menus for that so dont need the thing intruding every time I use the phone. Might only be a little transparent window at the top with the time, battery, alarm etc but not everyone wants it.
