how do I type a backslash on my galaxy note 8 from keyboard?

I see that there is a letter with the / above it, but I don't know how to select the /

Are you looking for the / or the \ The one you can see with a letter, long-press on that letter and that symbol should type. If you're still looking for the \ (what most consider the back slash) you should have a key to press to get a symbol keyboard, it should be on there but there may be 2 "pages" of them so there would be a 1/2 key to press for the second page.

To the OP, just so you know - / is a slash, \ is a backslash.
