how do i uninstall everything custom on my galaxy s4?

i got a phone on craigslist and it doesnt work. after extensive research i found that there is a fake imei number installed on the phone and the device status says custom. my best guess is the previous owner was trying to jailbreak it or something and messed it up and now i cant fix it. i really just want the old imei number back in the phone (the one listed under the battery) because there was nothing wrong with it. how can i fix this?? i even paid 60 bucks for a program that claimed could fix it but to no avail. please help

I've gotta think this is a found lost phone or more likely, a stolen one. The IMEI number has been blacklisted by the rightful owner to make it unusable. The last "owner" tried to put a fake IMEI on it to make it usable again. There's really no other reason to mess with the IMEI. So, even if you did manage to restore the original IMEI the phone would still be useless. And as you found out, IMEI "fixes" are as bogus as the phone you bought..

Bottom line: the phone is a paperweight. Try to get your money back, but lotsa luck with that.
