How do I USB connect to my PC with my older phone? Font transfer?

I have an old phone. It's a Samsung Captivate Glide, with Android 4.0.4 (Model #SGH-1927). I actually special ordered this phone from Amazon because the slide-out keyboard is like my previous phone and both are the best way for me to text with arthritic hands. I really don't need all the bells and whistles of a new phone, as I spend most of my time at home, and I can just use my PC. I was happy with my old phone (a much older Samsung with a slide-out keyboard), until some functions stopped working.

With my old phone, all I needed to do to USB connect to mass storage was plug the USB in and tap the "Connect to Mass Storage" button on my phone. With my "new" phone, I have no idea how to connect, so I can transfer some pictures onto my phone. How do I connect my phone to my PC?

I also would like to know if there's a way for me to transfer a font file straight to my device from my PC. I hate the fonts currently available on my phone. I tried to click on "Download Fonts Online," while I was in a wifi hot spot, but nothing happened. I don't have wifi at home. I usually keep the wifi off. I don't use the internet on my phone, as I use my PC most of the time. So wifi on phones is something beyond me right now. Is there a way for me to just load a font file onto my phone from my PC?

If anyone can tell me what to do for either question or both, that would be fantastic. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Mounting a phone as USB Mass Storage is only for older phones that partition their Internal Storage into a smaller App Installation area and a separate "Internal SD" that functions like a removable SD card (but isn't removable). If you don't see that option, then your phone doesn't use that method. Instead, when you connect via USB and swipe down the notification panel, tap the USB icon and look for MTP or File Transfer. That will allow your Windows Explorer on the PC to see the files in the user-accessible directories on the phone.

The main disadvantage of the older USB Mass Storage method was that while the phone was mounted as Mass Storage, you couldn't access that storage area on the phone -- only on the PC. With more modern phones, the files can be accessed by both the phone and the PC at the same time as long as MTP is being used.

Thank you! I eventually figured out how to transfer pictures and other files onto my phone.

Now I just need to ask about how to transfer fonts, if there is a way. I prefer a font like Tahoma, where there's a visible difference between the lowercase L and the uppercase I. It makes it easier for me to read when I'm tired or having vision issues.
