How do we access internal storage on the PC? On the phone?

Well this might be a dumb question but since the Stratosphere has 4GB of internal storage, I was wondering how one would access it? The built in file manager only has SD access (I suppose one could use Astro or ES instead...) but how can I access this space on the PC?

Come to think of it, yeah. Where the hell is the internal storage? The phone runs a media scan on it when you turn it on. I'm not quite willing to believe that it's simply a waste of time.

Exactly. Hopefully its not like on the motorola droid 3 where that 8 gb of storage is reserved as app space based on a few google searches I've done regarding the matter.

I looked in the phone manual and got nowhere.

If you are rooted can you get to it with something like Astro explorer? just a suggestion

If I knew what the folder was that it is scanning, then hell yeah you could get into it with Root Explorer.

I believe it is 4GB for emmc (aka onboard flash), or at least that is what it seems from doing a df on the mounted partitions:

Interesting stuff. I do wish then that they wouldn't advertise the phone as having 4 GB internal storage then. That's a bit sneaky sneaky on Verizon and Samsung's part...just say it comes with the 4GB SD card.

My first Stratosphere took photos, made videos and never said it needs a memory card. There was no SD card in the slot. But it broke so Verizon sent a replacement. This one won't take photos or do much else without a memory card.

Any ideas why the replacement requires a card to simply take photos but the first one didn't? It should be exactly the same as the first Stratosphere.

FWIW. The one that took photos was bought at Staples but the one that won't came straight from Verizon. I use minimal memory for apps and have no songs or videos stored. TIA.

Both of your stratosphere's should have came with a memory card. Are you absolutely sure that the 4GB microSD card on your first Strat wasn't in the phone?

In any case, I'd be asking for the microSD card for your current handset.

Positive. I compared them side by side before I sent the bad one back. I examined the slot shown in page 14 of the manual and both phones were empty.

Is there another slot somewhere that's populated by the dealer who sold the phone (Staples in this case)? It would explain why the phone from Staples appeared to have SD memory but the one from Verizon didn't.

Nope, just one slot. All Stratospheres are the same in the box for all retailers. Only one exception being the white one that Best Buy carries, and the only difference is it is white.

I can't imagine where the photos went if the SD card wasn't in there. Maybe there was a third-party camera app installed that stored them somewhere else? That is the only thing I can think of.

I've seen it run a media scan on /data before. I don't have any clue why, though.

Both of your stratosphere's should have came with a memory card.

Of course, neither of the "stratosphere's" would, but both of the Stratospheres should have.

There is one software specially for Samsung named Samsung Kies. You can install this software and can have internal storage access. You don't have to remove memory card and insert in laptop or computer, you will be able to access directly via data cable.

Very interesting! This doesn't seem to be available in Google Play, but can be found on the Samsung Web site. There is a cabled version and an "air" version that works over WiFi. At a quick glance, it seems to serve a purpose similar to that of the Palm Desktop (for those of us who are former Treo, Zire, etc., users): you use it on your PC to manage contacts, calendar events, media, and other content on the mobile device, syncing and transferring content between the PC and the mobile. Thus you would not be relying on syncing to Google Calendar and Gmail Contacts online. It also claims to be able to sync Outlook data from your PC to the mobile. There are both positive and negative reviews of it online (the negative ones especially in connection with the Galaxy S in 2010).
