How do you activate Agenda View for Google Calendar?

When reviewing newer Android devices such as the Samsung S9+ or Google Pixel 3 (I currently use an HTC 10) I see that many devices have what I call and "Agenda View" for the Google Calendar. It shows upcoming appointments or the next event on your calendar right on your home page. I used to have this on my previous Windows Phone devices and have never found a way to activate this function on Android devices. How do I/can I achieve this with my HTC 10? Or, is this only a new feature of Android 9.0?

Are you talking about one of the Calendar widgets, or Google's own At A Glance widget (which incorporates the weather as well, and intelligently figures out when to display an upcoming event)?

The Google Calendar app has a widget called "Schedule" -- if you have Google Calendar installed, look for that in the widget list. I'm not sure if the same thing is available for the stock HTC calendar app, but it usually is.

This was the image that Android Central featured on their home page (Where it says dinner with Alex in 2 minutes). I also saw a similar agenda feature on a Samsung S9+ in a Verizon store when I swiped to the right.Google Pixel 3 Calendar Agenda View.jpg

That's the At A Glance widget, which is built into the Pixel Launcher. You can try enrolling in the beta program for the Google app, which might give you access to that widget, or try Another Widget, as suggested in this article: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3269497/android/at-a-glance-widget-android.html

The At a Glance Widget is even available for my phone now. Your links and answer helped me learn so much about my Android device. Thank you! My productivity is going to be able to shoot through the roof now! I'll be on my phone all night tonight adjusting my calendars, themes, and launcher.

Right it's called "At a Glance" Widget (see pics)

To get to the widget, do this:

Hold a blank area of the screen > press Widgets icon > scroll through the list of widgets and go to: "Google" > press and hold the "At a glance" widget > drag it to a blank area of one of your home screens, (doesn't have to be thee home screen) can be any screen.

My pleasure! That article is by JR Raphael, one of the best tech journalists around who focuses on Android. I highly recommend reading his column in Computerworld, and also consider subscribing to his newsletter: https://www.jrstart.com/. (I don't have any affiliation with him -- just appreciate good writing!)
