I have Sprint Galaxy S5 and I am ready to throw it out the window. I have not had a problem with the phone until recently. I can't get it to cut the WiFi off and KEEP IT OFF!! I have tried everything!! I have gone into the advanced settings under WiFi and cut off the "network notification" (recieve notification when open networks are in range), I've cut off the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and changed it to NEVER. I unchecked the box and cut off the "always allow scanning" feature. Also under advanced settings I have cut off the smart network switch.
I have also gone into the "more networks" and cut off my connection optimizer and cut off the partner WiFi option. Even went as far as going into the Network Mode and changed it to LTE/CDMA. All of this is what I have read on the forums. Nothing is helping. The WiFi is still cutting on. It wouldn't bother me if I had WiFi to connect to but because I don't it's interferring with my regular mobile data and making it to where I can't use my data. It cuts on about every minute!! Not to mention this is draining my battery! Oh another thing, I downloaded a virus scanning app and my phone is clean (that was another recommendation from someone).

When it tries to connect to wifi did you used to have wifi at that location?
Go into where you input the passwords for the wifi networks and select "forget" under all the ones you don't need.

Change it to Always, or you'll lose connections when the screen goes dark.

Even went as far as going into the Network Mode and changed it to LTE/CDMA.
No connection beteween LTE/CDMA/GSM and wifi - totally different radios, and totally different devices and software as far as the system is concerned.

All of this is what I have read on the forums.
Some of what you read on the forums is written by people who wouldn'r recogniize a clue if it jumped down their throats and bit them, others have been in the industry for years. So not every suggestion on a forum is Gospel. I'll paraphrase the Buddha - question even what I'm telling you.

The phone is under replacement warranty. I've never wasted more than 5 minutes on a phone that I can get replaced - it's a lose-lose situation. Bring it to the carrier and ask them to please fix or replace it. (Make sure everything is backed up first. Even if they can fix it, there's a good chance they'll do a factory reset and wipe your data.)

The one thing you might try first is Safe Mode (see Power the Device Up in Safe Mode Samsung Galaxy S 5 | Verizon Wireless - it applies no matter who the carrier is). If it works in safe mode, it's one of your downloaded apps that's causing the problem. (If that's the case, I'd use App Backup & Restore to back up all the downloaded apps, Helium to back up all their data, then restart [Safe Mode will go away], and start installing apps one at a time. When the problem comes back, it's the last app you installed.) Even if the carrier reflashes the ROM, giving you a clean phone, if it's an app doing it, and you reinstall that app, the problem will be there, so make sure it's not an app first. (Now maybe you understand why paying to have a problem like this fixed isn't worth it - $35 an hour or more to install your apps, one by one, and using the phone for a few minutes. Doing it yourself is free, except for the time you waste, and it's so simple a fifth grader would consider it boring.)

You can't stop it. Mine does it too, once every minute. I am using MacroDroid to turn it off as soon as it turns on, so effectively keeping it off, but there is no setting to stop it.
