How do you "turn on"/get into the phone?

On my S7E I press the home button which brings up the lock screen that I can swipe into. On the S8 there is no home button, so how will you get into the phone? Knock on like the LG's or some other way? If the phone is sitting on my desk I don't want to have to pick it up to put my finger on the finger scanner every time.

The power button should still work for activating the screen.

Edit: I think Samsung may be pushing the retina scanner for unlocking your device.

Both of those would be a pain. Hope they have some other options like double tap. I don't want to have to stare into the phone every time to turn it on when I'm reaching over to my nightstand or it's just sitting on the desk. And small of a thing as it is I don't really want to reach over to the side when I can just tap the screen.

Buy it some flowers and play some Sade to turn it on. If you're lucky then you'll be able to get into it as well.

Probably similar to the iPhone. The iPhone7 button is really not a button. It uses haptic feedback. With the S8, you probably will just be able to "depress" the screen anywhere to turn on. Probably a setting for haptic feedback it which you can control how you depress the screen to turn on.

But if I depress the screen will I then have to give it antidepressants to ameliorate what I've done?

As long as you don't use your phone for about three weeks, the therapeutic onset time. :)

Good old power button on the side. Or use Bixby voice command to unlock the phone. I think they're also going to bring back the retina scanner from the Note 7 (probably reused the parts). There's also the finger print scanner inconveniently located by the camera. Quite possibly they might have a knock feature like LG (which is amazing, don't know why other phones don't have it).

Hopefully they will take that into consideration so people aren't showing up in the ER with their depressed phone screens.

It will take two hands to press a side button to turn on the screen even if the phone is laying on a desk. You have to hold it down so it doesn't slide with the force of pressing the side button. I was working between my S7, my mother's S5, her landline and a new tablet (setting up the tablet). I had to turn the S7 and S5 on several times. Just a tap on physical button on front. Very convenient. Don't think I'll be a fan of no physical home button :(

How hard can it be to lift a phone? :D I believe you'll be able to use retina scanner for unlocking, something like in L950/XL.
