How does messaging/calling work on a dual sim android phone?

Hi all

So I am thinking about leaving Windows 10 mobile and jumping ship to Android.

The one issue that is holding me back is messaging and calling with a dual sim phone. On my dual sim Windows phone, I have two icons for each (messaging and calls) on my home screen, one for each number. This allows me to keep my work messages and calls in one spot and my personal ones in another.

On an Android phone (looking at a Oneplus 3 or dual sim Galaxy S7), can I have separate icons for messaging and calls for each line in my phone?

If I cannot do that, how do I set up the phone so I don't have to choose which line I will use with every text or call as that will get old really fast?

I have seen some reports online about a setting where you can set one sim card all messages or calls but that wont work in my case. I need to either have separate icons for each number or the ability to link contacts to each number.

Any advice?

Thanks

Doug

Hello Doug, welcome to the forums. I haven't use the S7 dual SIM but this is how it works in other phones.

You only have an icon for the dialer or the messaging app and you're prompted to choose the SIM card AFTER you confirm the call or send the message. You can set individual rules for any contact or general rules like selection by carrier. Once you set the rule the call or the message will go through automatically from the selected SIM. You can always clear this rules and go back to manual selection.
