I have been seeing on ebay Optimus V with bad esn how does this happen? I mean the phone is set up without contract so that if you don't pay you don't get further service. Can someone please let me know how this happens?

It could be because it was a phone replaced under warranty that wasn't returned to Virgin. Or stolen from the store and not activated at the register. Or reported lost or stolen by the owner, to name a few examples.

Stolen or unpaid balance. Typically its an unpaid balance that is due to bad ESN stay clear of it. You can get a new V from amazon for less that 120 from seller shopcell

I got mine from shopcell. Good seller for sure. Don't mess with bad esn's. Just get a new one and be done with it.

OV with a bad ESN works fine as a wifi phone just don't plan on using the cell radio at all.
