How does the LG G3 compare to the Galaxy S5?

I thought the G3 was too big also, at first.
I went in played with it....
The screen is big and looking at the phone makes you think it's bigger than it is.
I was going to pass but after holding it an checking the pocket fit. I'm sold.

I personally liked the S5 but love the G3. The S5 had a little more lag but I never enabled ART on it and since enabling ART on Saturday I have only charged my battery one time and I'm at 41% now. The S5 had good battery life with Dalvik enabled but this thing is amazing with ART. Also this phone sounds more clear on speaker and normal phone calls and has better sound coming from headphones to me. I love the UI and feel is has more useful features than Samsung did and even copies the good ones Sammy came up with. Love the keyboard that came with it as well.

I am coming from a Galaxy S3 and was planning on getting an S5 as an upgrade, however, after playing with both of them in the store and reading these forums, I'm leaning toward the G3 more now. The only thing that I wish I could see more of is the pictures it takes. If you compare the photo threads on here from the S5 and G3, the S5 (overall) seems to have more beautiful photos. I know that isn't the most important feature for everyone, but I take a lot of pictures with my phone. The one advantage in photos that the G3 has is in low light (based on what I have seen people post so far).

I've been very impressed with low light, no flash pictures that I've taken so far on my G3. My S3 took really nice day shots but night time/low light shots were really bad. Not sure if Samsung has improved low light pics with the S5 but I'm sure the days shots will be stunning. I don't dislike the S5, I just grew a little bored with their product so I'm trying out something else. I've had my G3 since this past Friday and have played with it all weekend long and so far, I'm really enjoying my experience with it!

I am feeling the same way about the camera (from what I've seen) and I am a little bored with Samsung as well. The idea of getting something that feels a little newer/more fresh is exciting. In terms of holding the G3 in your hand (do you use a case?), do you feel like it was a huge jump and took some getting used to after the S3?

Everyone that I've showed the phone to over the weekend has been very impressed by the build quality and how it feels in the hand. Its a very well, thought out device by LG. They deserve a lot of credit for that. Right now, I'm carrying it in my Oakley shades satin pouch riding in my pocket until my case gets here sometime this week from Amazon. I ordered the Spigen Slim Armor in Gunmetal color. This phone has been a joy to use and go through its various settings and features. There was no problem for me getting used to it because its something new thats not Samsung, lol! I've been pleasantly surprised that I've liked everything I've been doing with it so far.

I have been hearing about overheating problems with the G3, to the point where people have to turn down brightness levels or stop using the phone for a while. I really hope that isn't the norm. Anyone have experience with that?

There are a few threads about that issue but nothing definitive it seems.

Been stuck between these 2 phone's also. I am still using a Galaxy s2 so it's gonna be a huge upgrade for me. Like the G3 for Screen/Size/Ram. S5 for screen as was said it was the best 1080p screen on the market/plus the camera is better I hear. I really wanted 3Gig's of ram on the S5 so I held off on buying. Might wait till September as the Galaxy F is supposed to hit with the same screen as the G3 with 3 gigs of ram.

The camera is better in broad daylight but if there isn't plenty of light available then the G3 is going to take the better picture.

Before my G2 I had AMOLED screens on two phones. Both suffered from burnin well before the two years. I think it will be a while before I try AMOLED again in spite of how good they look when new.

My S3 is 2 years old and the AMOLED screen is as beautfiul as the dya I obught it. There's no burn in on any Samsung AMOLED phones these days.

You're going from a phone to a Phablet...

You're either a troll or they have Wi Fi on the short bus

I have an S3 too and it has been pretty great, however, just in regard to this statement ^^ when I went to the AT&T store to look at the two phones (because the Verizon store near me didn't have the G3 yet), the GALAXY logo was burned into the S5 screen. You could see it when you switched to other things, including videos, etc. It was so shocking, I didn't think that would actually happen.

Wonder if that was faulty hardware? That's way too fast for any screen to burn in under normal circumstances.

I certainly hope so. I don't know why they wouldn't switch it out, as it made it look pretty bad for anyone looking at the phone.

Compared The G3 To The S5 Today...

....And while the G3 is a very pretty piece of technology -- far prettier than the S5 without a case -- the real downfall of the G3 is the screen.

I know, many of you are probably saing "WHAT??? - the screen is supposed to be it's best feature." Well I compared the S5 screen to the G3 with both at full brightness and on auto brightness. The G3 does not get anywhere near as bright as the S5 but, far more importantly, it looks washed out and dull. It also exhibits severe off-axis dimming so to even get acceptable results you have to look at it straight on. If you tilt it even 20 degrees off-axis it's like someone flipped a light switch off. Reminded me of those horrid first generation LCD TV's that were utterly unwatchable from anywhere other than directly in front to the set.

On a positive note, the browser seemed very snappy and web pages loaded in no time at all. And it was clearly more "snappy" than the S5 transitioning from screen to screen and between apps with tremendous fluidity. It was far better than the S5 in this regard. The speaker is rear mounted so I wouldn't expect too much from it but it did play significantly louder than the S5's rear speaker with less distortion. Neither one is any match for the M8 but I guess that's no shock to anyone. The camera opened considerably more quickly that the S5's and seemed to have no problem focusing even on subjects that had little contrast. I couldn't directly compare the quality of camera shots taken with each but I'd be shocked if it produced results as good as those of the S5. The S5 camera (at least in adequate light) is simply superb.

The phone is a marvel of space utilization and the screen is ginormous in a body that's only a bit wider than the S5. I continue to hate the on-screen buttons as they take up screen real estate and disappear in "immersive mode" (when you might want to access a few of those controls directly). At least in immersive mode you get your whole screen back...the problem is it's still a crap shoot when you get immersive mode or you're stuck with the on-screen buttons.

So all-in-all a bit of a mixed bag but, for me, the complete and utter deal breaker would be the washed out, lifeless screen with severe off-axis degredation. Viewed side by side with the display of the S5 it's almost embarassing. I suppose others may disagree but I could never live with this phone.

Geez the screen can't be that bad compare to the s5. I compared my g2 to the s5 and not a huge difference, the s5 screen was nicer though. I rather have a snappy phone over a nicer screen any day. Can't wait to compare the two on Wednesday at tmobile. Lag is a huge problem with galaxy phones I've had.

I really like the screen on my G3.

The text is very sharp - the screen sort of reminds me of the Kindle Paperwhite.

I'm coming from having an S5 (and before that a Note 3).

The screen seems perfectly fine to me, but I do like the screen on the S5 better. The tone on the G3 seems overall...cooler, and while things are definitely sharp, they aren't as punchy and vibrant as they were on the S5 (and Note 3). I also had the M8 for a little while (I ended up returning it), and the screen reminds me of that, just sharper. I also never run anything at full brightness, so I can't comment on the "extremes."

I'm not running into any of the lag I've heard people complain about. Swiping around, opening up Netflix and Instagram and whatnot feels about the same.

When I first got it and was loading it up, I could physically feel the phone heating up. I had the brightness at like 80% and it was getting really warm. Ended up kicking it down to 50% and it felt better. Now though, I'm running at 75% and messing around with it and it feels normal to the touch.

The system itself feels somewhere in between Touchwiz and stock Android. There are some nice options that Touchwiz didn't have and also some crap that Touchwiz had that I never used.

Overall, I'm happy with the phone. I definitely wouldn't hesitate taking it back if I didn't like it, but I'm going to stick with it...at least until the Note 4 comes out. Screen isn't mind blowing, but is more than fine.

I actually love the screen on the g3..It's soft on the eyes and I'm on mine my phone allot. Yes it's what appears dimmer than what the s5 is but it's all by design of the screen. It comes down to personal preference and like anything new it will take time to adjust to it. I remember when u had my HTC one and had to exchange it and the one I got the screen looked a bit like the g3 does now. It was found that there were a couple different model screens I believe that were used in the HTC one..
I personally like it after a few days use and don't find myself squinting or having my eyes burning. It's crystal clear also.

Well you won't have to if you have zero intention of buying lol

Its a pointless end statement your just attempting to strengthen your opinion.

Yes Amoled has its advantages like deeper blacks ect.

But the screen despite your opinion and one that your entitled to share, is great and even off axis, just done it and its fine now to the right, yup fine, now flat, again fine hmm I'm not seeing what you are gladly.

All your compliments are followed by underhanded insults to the g3. I have a really hard time belIeving reviews like this.
