How Durable Without A Case?

I'm thinking of picking up an S10 5G with the huge 6.7" screen. This is coming from an LG with 6.1" screen. I always put cases on my phone but at 6.7" I think that's just going to be too damn bulky (I have small-average size man's hands.) I think these phones now how Gorilla Glass 6 on them. I've read articles in recent years that it's almost pointless to put a screen protector as the screens are either going to crack from a fall (with a protector) or not and it's hard to scratch them without breaking them unless in a rare case you drop it with no protector and it doesn't break. A thin case also is just going to prevent some minor nicks in most cases as a big fall, the case usually doesn't protect it unless it's a bulky one. I'd rather just pay for accident insurance and leave the case off this time around.

So for those of you that have had an S10 for a while without a case, how prone is the phone to getting scuffs/scratches (without dropping it?)

I've seen a fair number of them for sale on the Marketplace and other sites with cracked screens, and/or backs, so it looks like uncased might be taking a fair amount of risk.

Coming from my experiences, as a man also cursed with almost feminine-sized hands, I carried the S8+, notorious for its fragility, still carry a Note 9, and have dropped both repeatedly, but with a case. Corner drops can be ugly, and that's why my phones wear protection, just a TPU or other style thin case, which doesn't add bulk, but it does add protection.

And honestly, it helps in holding the devices, as well. As slick as they are, it really helps to have something to grip onto, because in the right conditions, they'll just *OOPS*, pop right out of your hands!

I don't typically add screen protection any longer. Even beautifully applied, eventually, they'll peel up and cause issues on these curved screens. Flat screens, I never had a problem with.

You might be surprised, it isn't as giant as you may think. On fragility, its 2 pieces of glass glued to a hollow aluminium frame... Rugged it ain't.

Being able to access the bottom of a Pringles can shouldn't be viewed as a curse, count it as a blessing lol.

I'm not sure what that means but I don't need to access the bottom of the can. Just turn it upside down. Come to think of it I can't remember the last time I Pringles

I agree. I use a case on my S10+ because it's very slippery without one. I'm not usually prone to dropping things, but I'm not going to take a chance of dropping a device with glass on front and back because it's too slippery to hold. I find it much easier and comfortable to hold with a TPU case with a grippy texture.

I'm just trying to make him feel better about his tiny paws

The last time I Pringles was a couple of weeks before last Christmas... The first time I used "Pringles" as a verb was in this comment lol.

It's a huge and heavy glass sandwich of a phone. Of course it needs a case unless you're standing above grass or carpet.

Oh, the size of a phone doesn't bother me, my last two were the S8+ and Note 9, so that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think the OP was more concerned about that than I am. Some of my games I play, I do them on an Amazon Fire 8" tablet, with a pretty bulky case. Back on the Note 5, though, I had a thin case versus my ex-wife, who got an Otterbox Defender which I found to be waaay to bulky for my comfort. But minimally, a TPU case with edge, corner, and raised portions to keep the screen off of flat surfaces does me just fine.

I bought several Caseology cases for my Note 9, though, when they had those great deals back when the 9 was first released. I actually broke one of those tonight with a drop, it was the outer shell, broke right in the middle of the bottom edge. It was my favorite of the four, too, with nice texturing.

Ahhhh, the phone is WAY too fragile for me to go caseless! I am a clumsy and weird person, and so my phones suffer the consequences! I at least purchased device protection this time around!

I do recommend you at least get a screen protector if you are iffy about having a case for your S10 5G.

Too bad the 5G doesn't come in the ceramic variant. I've seen several, rather extreme, drop and torture tests and the ceramic always fairs well.

As far as I'm concerned all devices should be ceramic but it does add weight to the device and lightens your wallet.

I love my ceramic S10+ and for £700 new my wallet was heavier than getting the normal version.
