How EVO handles app updates

I'm getting rather annoyed at the EVO, and likely it's probably my own configuration fault- so I don't want to fault the phone.

I have probably around 20-30 apps installed on the phone; probably more than the average user; but nothing 'insane' - I use almost every one of the apps.

One of the biggest issues for me, is when it comes time to use the app, there's often an 'update' notice that pops up if I haven't been in the app for a day or two- it would be awfully convenient if the phone would just 'auto-update' these apps for me as the updates become available, rather than having to manually update them anytime there is a new release.

Market is horrible at this, it seems when I 'go to' the market to look for an app, I'm usually bombarded with 10+ 'has updates' notifications that I have to click through each one-

What is a good solution for this dilemma- or is this typical use aka 'working as intended'.

Android's next version, 2.2 (Froyo) fixes this. Not really an EVO issue, just how Android works currently. It's something you can look forward to. :P

No to the auto update. Many updates crash the program so I want to make the decision myself.

I can see this as a good reason; but there are some updates that I trust with quality control to a point where I would take the risk of a bad update over not having current data---

Sprint Nav for example, it's annoying that I have to update in the car when I finally need it, than when it could have used my wifi in the home or office to manage the update.

Yeah auto update can be good and bad... Sometimes apps are changed for the worst... Where they remove features and decide to make you pay... You may just want to keep the old version.. Id rather just do it myself in some cases... Would be nice for apps u already paid for though... I hope they include options for auto update...

In Froyo it's not forced on you, you have a per-app option of automatically updating, and there's also the option of updating all apps that need it at once, instead of going into each app to update in the market.

Are you not getting the notifications for updates automatically? I know that if I don't go to the market and check for updates for a while, there will be a notification in the tray saying that there are app updates. Still have to update them one by one from the market but you can kick off several at once. I really like the update process in Android. On my WinMo phone, you hardly ever knew there were updates available.

I am looking forward to the 2.2 release and the improvements to app updates.

Yeah I'm running a Rom with Froyo on it... and it lets you update all apps at once.
So root and get rid of that problem now or just wait until Froyo comes out.
