JuiceDefender works by turning radios off when you don't need them. Here are a couple of examples.

WiFi
If you are near a WiFi hot spot that you use like at home or work, it will turn on WiFi. But if you go out of range of a WiFi hot spot it will automatically turn off WiFi for you.

Night
When you are normally asleep it can turn on Silent Mode and Airplane mode, and turn off all the radios. It saves battery life but more importantly can save a marriage. No more 3 am email, text or mistaken calendar alerts.

Turn Off 4G
Nothing sucks battery like 4G. JuiceDefender can automatically turn off 4G when you are using WiFi.

There are other features but this give you the idea.

You have to go into the custom mode to get these features set up.

Juice plotter is a great app for tracking battery usage, particularly standby usage. If your phone sits for an hour, or several while you're sleeping, the line should be pretty much flat. If not, you have an issue somewhere.

Juice defender completely hosed my battery life by using resources and communicating, turning on the screen, turning off and on wifi, etc. Uninstalled after 1 day.

I use juice defender all the time, i mostly use it on weekends when i know i wont be by a charger for a while. It has been the best app i downloaded.

I get 24-34 hours on the weekends with it on and about 8-12 with it off.

all it does is only turn on the 3g network when your screen is on, then it will turn on 3g once every (how often you set it to) for 2 mins.. so that background events can run.

you still get calls and texts b/c thats over the mobile network. emails come in based on the setting you put for when to turn on the 3g network.

i have heard of it being a negative thing on peoples phones but its a life saver for me.

most i have seen is 36 hours with it on.

juice plotter i also had, again reverse of what everyone is saying.. i found that useless and a battery drain iteself. deleted it after a few days.

So juice defender seems like it is good for a couple small features to save juice, but what kind of app will help diagnose a problem if it seems all of a sudden you are losing juice more rapidly than before? This doesn't point out what is causing battery drain, and neither does juice plotter. Any help with this?

Can someone share what setting they use with Juice Defender? I'm interested in using it but want to make sure I receive my email when it comes in. Not sure if that's possible?
