How fast does your battery charge?

My phone drained today to empty, and charged back up to 100% in 2 hours! Is this right? What are you guys getting? I want to know if this thing is working correctly. And yes, I've done all of that sticky stuff, I just want to know how fast your guys' Thunderbolts charge. (Using HTC charger plugged into wall)

sounds about right, charges pretty quick for me as well. Very slow to charge on USB though. About 2 hours to charge 10%. Love the quick charge with the ac adapter though!

I've only completely killed the stock battery once and two hours seems about right. The battery actually seems to charge pretty fast for me compared to a lot of other phones.

the battery is 1.4Ah. the adapter is rated at 1A. in a perfect world, a charge from 0% to 100% will take 1 hour and 24 minutes. 2 hours sounds reasonable.

Dang, ok thanks for the input. At least if you run out, (because you will) it will be back soon enough.

Li-Ion cannot charge at this high of a rate through the duration of the charge. The current from the charger decreases as battery charge increases.

So, if you plug your phone in for an hour, it will probably be over 50% charged, even if the full charge takes 2 hours.

i'm quite aware of that. it's actually the last 90% that really takes a long time when the charger switches from from constant current to constant voltage trying to slowly top off that last 90% without going over the 4.2v limit of the battery.

Wow, mine doesn't charge anywhere near that fast. More like 4 hours to go from empty to full. However, I am using a longer USB cable from Monoprice.com with the OEM HTC wall plug. Could the different USB cable be slowing down my charging?

That site is fairly interesting. I didn't know it was bad to charge a mobile device while it's on. Another interesting read:

My battery is only at 20C when idle or off. I know it's a simple effect of discharge rate but at least now I know how damaging it is to the battery longevity. Also I wish android had an option to charge more slowly. I know 1A is nice to be fully charged in a short time but I only charge at night. Too bad there isn't a setting when you plug it in to specify if you're in a hurry or doing a slow charge.

yes, the cable can be rated at a lower amp carry than what the OEM HTC wall adapter puts out.. i saw that the adapter puts out 1amp and some cables are rated only at .5amps that's half of the rated 1amp.

Mismatching hardware like that can have nasty effects for the battery as well. It'd be best to just get a brick rated for 500mA instead. Also my device runs at 40C when under heavy load of charging or parasitic charging, 30C on normal use. Rarely ever 20C. Is this normal for smart phones?

Last 5% takes the most time. I plugged in at 47% at 9:52 tonight and at 10:30 it was at 80% so that's 33% in 38 minutes. However, getting it from about 95% to 100% can take a half hour or so. Just the nature of the beast. Charging off the wall at 1 amp getting 1% per minute or so is good(minus the end). I'd bet from dead to 90% would probably only take 90-100 minutes so even though it'll take a bit longer to fully top it off it's good to know that if you need a quick 30 minute charge that you can expect about 30%.

While technically true I would not put a lot of worry about it. I have almost always charged my batteries while the device is on and only twice had a battery that would not hold a charge anymore. Once was tracked to a defective charger and the other to a defective phone. I have Blackberries that are 3 years old and the batteries still hold a charge just fine.

I usually get about 1% per minute for the first 85 minutes or so, then it tapers off as it gets into the 90s.

I have the app Battery Monitor running full time. It keeps a nice log of charge and discharge. It's interesting to see the numbers. It does between 600 and 800 mA from 0% until it hits 75% full. That variation is due to background processes I have running. At 75% it begins to drop into the 400-600 mA range. As it gets to 90%, it goes down to 300 mA. Mid-90s, it gets down to 200 mA and then finally down to about 100 mA near 100%.
