How fast should 4G be?

My Maxx seems to be really, really slow. Slower than my old 3G phones. Even when I force it to CDMA it's still very slow. I get about 13meg download on wifi - I'm on fiber at home - about 300k(!) on 4G. I thought 4G was going to be at least as fast as my home wifi?

The slow connection is slow everywhere. It's disappointing.

My 4G results:

DL: 3.13 Mbps
UL: 0.68 Mbps
Ping: 97 ms

It appears that not all 4G is created equal.

Issemann,
How did you get your battery icon to show numbers? Thanks!

Ping 64ms
Download 20.47 Mbps
Upload 12.15Mbps

Boston, MA

Try to do a reset with the Power button and volume down button together for 10 seconds.

That seems to have helped. i am now at 10meg down, 12meg up. Which is still weird :) But it's way better than 300k. Thanks!

I had to do the power button, volume down thing as well and it helped a ton. Definitely recommend that as the first step to anyone having speed issues

Yes. The traffic the tower gets also matters.

I-20 & I-95 Corridor in South Carolina
8.25 down
1.00 up
90 ping

We just got it today. The power/volume reset worked great for me. Was at 1.5 down before I did it.

This almost sounds like a battery pull on a Blackberry! What happened to the wonderful resource management of Android anyway?

Yeah, I know - no OS is perfect. But having to cycle a phone to get decent comms rates seems kind of flaky. I hope ICS is smarter about things.

What a difference rebooting my phone makes. Was getting 0.56 down/1.29 up 70ms ping pre-reboot and thought I was being throttled. Got 10.30 down/9.31 up, 63ms ping after rebooting. (phew)

It depends on where you are, speed varies. I do notice I average 19mbps down and 10mbps up in the Boston area.
In the Detroit Area, I was getting around 22down and 8up.
In Grand Rapids area, I was getting around 15down and 10 up.

Those are the ones I have a screen shot off. I don't do speed tests everywhere I go but if I have nothing else to do, I run a quick test. And if I have time, I'll run a speedtest on with my MiFi and I get about the same results +/-2mb
