First I have Windows Vista.

I downloaded SuperOneClickv2.1.1 shortfuse.org

Reboot your phone and Tap on settings

Tap SD card & phone storage

Tap Unmount SD card

Plug in your USB cable and select USB Mass Storage

Tap settings

Tap Application settings

Tap Development

Select USB debugging

Start SuperOneClick

Click Root

The program will run and if succesfull will tell you to reboot.

You are now rooted. If the program hangs up (mine did on step 4) make sure you unmounted the SD drive and selected USB debugging. Also you must have the Casio drivers on your PC If your phone will not connect normally when you plug it in then you can't root the phone. Here is a link to the drivers C771 Drivers - Android Forums

I installed Titanium Backup (go pro its worth $6) Go on their web site for instructions.

With pro you can freeze an app. reboot and see if it affects your phone before you uninstall it.

Back up all your apps before you uninstall them so you can restore them. I took off the VZ stuff, left the bing. I just did this so I don't have a report on perceived performance improvements, but I will post again later.

Great walk through. Thanks from a new Android user. I look forward to hearing if there are any significant performance improvements. Q- when you root the phone, does this prevent you from getting and over the air updates for Android system or other apps?

Thanks again.

I've only had my android for a week, but I believe that if you don't remove InnoPath Activecare you will still get the updates. My phone did seem to speed up a little with the freed up memory.
