I am currently on Sprint with the EVO. I use the Google Voice number extensively for business. My question is, How will I be charged if the gv number is not in my friends and family list? We are thinking about going with the 1400 family data plan. Any help would be appreciated.

The native Google Voice isn't voip on cell phones so it'll count against your anytime minutes. You can put the number in your F&F but you'll need to turn off caller id forwarding to get free incoming and you'll have to call your actual google voice number and then dial the other person's number or use something like Google Voice Callback.

I just asked a similar question of that nature, but I only wanted it for visual voice mail, wanted to make sure that I am not charged against my FF plan. which I found out I not be. but if you use the gv number to call out how does it tell the difference do you get an option of which number to use?

Come on lovy. Because you'll be making a call from your phone and not from a different number or the google voice app. You don't have a google voice number so it has no impact on you or your plan. Just stop worrying. IT WILL NOT AFFECT ANYTHING IF YOU ARE KEEPING THE SAME NUMBER AND ONLY USING FOR VOICEMAIL :p

lovy cause your using the app as what Google terms as Google Voice Lite, yes as a safety measure you could add your Google # if you have one to FF plan and monitor your usage on-line. Hope this helps and if you have any further questions feel free to ask as always.

I do believe you are charged a min or two when the caller is forwarded to your google voice mail. I only have 550 min family plan and even with the voice mails I get I never go over but it is something to keep in mind when you are looking at your bill and notice some min used by callers that should normally go toward your "in calling".

I look at it this way though. When you use verizon voice mail you are charged min to call and check your voice mail unless you use a landline to do so. If you use google voice for voice mail you are charged min when the caller is forwarded to your google voice number but you are not charged to check the voice mail if you use your computer or the google voice app because it uses your data connection.

I just want to make sure Im correct. So currently when a call comes in I can see my gv number when it rings. So basically turn that feature off and I wont be charged with any of my daytime minutes?

To check voicemail I check through the google voice app, so ill just be charged data correct?

Ill have to check Google Voice Callback, never heard of it. Thanks for your help!

Dukins if your on Sprint with the Evo here is some new info to help you, from Google and Sprint present: Google Voice for Sprint hands-on (video) -- Engadget. If you need more answers or info ask away.

For voicemail, there's no charge to check them as long as you use the app.

If you see your google voice number when someone calls you, then caller id is turned off. Adding your gv number to your F&F would then give you unlimited incoming since all incoming numbers would show as you google voice number.

The native app gives you an option to use google voice for calls but the number it actually dials isn't your gv number and is usually random and not worth trying to keep up with to add to your F&F. For free outgoing, you'd need to physically dial your google voice number, hit option 2 and then enter the person's number you're calling.

Google voice callback is an app that intercepts your outgoing calls, tells google voice to call the recipient and your number and then connects the two. I believe google is doing away with the free calling part at the end of this year so that loophole may no longer work after then.

lovy do have a full blown google # that you use, reason I ask is there is a particular setting on the number being shown to setup in caller id for you FF plan to be setup on your google settings page to show using the setting show my google # for FF plan to reflect as m2m correctly. Also the google voice callback is great app, I used the orginal app GV Dialer to get around being charged calling my google #. There are apps in the market that can be combined with Google App to make unlimted calls thru android on 3G and wifi based.

Let me state there is now way I guarantee that this will provide 100% m2m (free calls) using the Google Voice to make the free calls, but there are programs that will in the market like Csipsimple, GV Dialer, Google Voice CallBack, Sipdroid, and others in combination with a number from Sipgate and Google Voice to make inbound and outbound calls from your phone. I do have few links if anyone would like or I can try to do a How-to tutorial on this method.

I think everyone is getting the message saying it's not supported even though it is. So yeah, just configure it to use GV for voicemail. I had a colleague call my cell # a few minutes afterward and his message came up in my GV list just fine.

yeah, the auto config doesn't work with verizon. You need to do the manual no-answer call fowarding

Calling Features: No Answer/Busy Transfer
How to Use It
To Activate - No Answer:

Press *71.
Enter the forwarding phone number where you want calls to be forwarded (e.g. *71-606-123-4567).
Press SEND and wait for confirmation. You should hear a confirmation tone.
Press END.

lovy to click the skip button below the process, to set up it up I believe it is use your google # and dial *71 the your areacode and google #, should look like this *71 areacode5551212 from within your dialpad, the phone will beep 2x to confirm completion. Also go into menu-settings-phone and choose voicemail and then switch to GoogleVoice. Call yourself from another line and try confirm everything works if not, report back and I will gothru the settings with you. Hope it works for you.

ugh I didn't click the skip button I had clicked configure it's a weird because if I go into settings under Voicemail number it's a 518 area cod number shouldn't mu number be there? Should I Uninstall?

I did a test call I received a notification that says new message dial 518 and then a number that is not my number *sighs* with Visual voicemail I thought I was just supposed to press the message and then I could hear what the person is saying that left it.

did you do the steps I posted earlier about changing in your phone from regular voicmail to instead using your google #. If we have to we will start from scratch we will then get you going
