How Is The Moment With 2.1 Installed?

I am a current Pre owner who is looking to switch to Android. The lack of voice-activated dialing on the Evo is a dealbreaker for me. Plus, I really don't need 4G, much less have the desire to pay extra for it.

This leaves Moment vs. Hero. I get the impression that the Moment is a better phone, and I like the idea of having a physical keyboard. The Galaxy might be an even better phone, but I don't feel like waiting for some unknown date. (Besides, if my Pre butt-dials one more time....)

So, if you own a Moment and are running 2.1, what are your thoughts, good or bad? Is the problem with the battery indicator sitting at 15% fixed (an issue I saw in some reviews). How is the battery life overall? What about the GPS issues - is that just related to older models of the Moment? How about call quality? Is calendar and contact syncing good?

I need a phone for productivity first - which means syncing contacts, calendars and Evernote. Voice-activated dialing is a must (hate the fact that Pre still lacks this). The camera must read UPC bar codes. GPS must work. Web pages must load quickly (or as fast as Sprint allows.) And, yeah, I need to be able to tweet. Finally, I need to be able to multi-task - meaning running Pandora, web, twitter and calendar at once. BTW, none of these are unreasonable desires for a smart phone.

Let me know your impressions - good or bad.

Thanks.

One other question. How is the voice-activated dialing on the Moment? I've read where it is done via Nuance and not Android. Is this true and if so, can I simply hit the button my BT headset, say "call [contact]" and have the number dialed without me ever touching the phone?

My Choice Dialer app can provide voice-activated dialing on any Android phone (1.5 and later), with voice confirmations. Using a BT headset's button, and voice dialing THROUGH it, however, requires Android 2.2. Even the free version offers these features.

FYI, until my most recent release, Choice Dialer did not work on many Moments. The cause appeared to be that Nuance Voice Control was locking up the microphone. I had to figure out a way to work around that and I believe I succeeded.

Software pre-installed on phones that can't be removed, updated or told to sit in the corner and lie still is a misdeed.

I have an Evo. I have voice activated dialing. So I am not sure what you are talking about.
