It's loud. It's a tiny speaker in a big phone. It's not a Bose, but it's not horrible.

The speaker itself isn't terrible. However my speaker phone voice calls are pretty bad. Can't turn the volume up all the way without it getting scratchy. Really unfortunate as I used to always use speaker phone on my last iPhone.

No complaints.. Speaker is loud enough. Atleast better than my earlier iPhone. Just get the phone, too many wow features that this speaker issue wont even come to your mind.

Is it really as bad as people are saying.. I really want this phone, but this is a major turn-off... Thanks...:)

It's ok. Although I tend to put my right pinky finger under the phone, So I am unconciously blocking the sound. I did some tweaks with the equalizer on my music player, the google one,so I thinks it's ok.
Although I don't turn it up to max volume.
It will sound scratchy. Other than that. It's cool.
Buy it! :)

Mine seemed good the first few days but now call quality is garbage and my my speaker cracks now. It seems blown out already. How can they make such a premium phone and drop the ball on this. I gotta take mine back and hopefully the next won't have the same issue other wise I gotta go back to the note 2

Does anyone have the same issue if your volumes up does the speaker cracks at times?

The built-in speaker sounds OK to me, at least for playing music and games. I haven't tried it for phone calls, but I would think the audio quality would be similar, and thus OK for me.

I watched today The Walking Dead while waiting for my food in a restaurant (good pre-food material, huh?). I hardly heard a thing even when sound was at max. I guess it was because the sounds were directed to right instead directly at me, and the place was big. Works better at home tho.

It's a little "tinney" sounding, but it is definitely loud. I just don't see what the big deal is. I have had lots of smartphones and never played music through any of their speakers.

If you are on the fence about it, go check one out in store.

It's the best sounding speaker I ever had in a phone, that being said it's a phone, not a stereo system. It is what it is.

THE BEAST,,NOTE 3. SIZE IS EVERYTHING!!!

Well......I am coming from the HTC DNA which had a terrible speaker ....... the N 3 is a big improvement in volume and projection ( bottom speaker vs. back cover location ). I feel there are so many amazing features on this phone all in a market leading hardware package........imho I don't buy a smartphone for its speaker so I would go for it !! Plus if you stream it has Apt X on board

I think its ok.

Nice and clear and perfect for spoken word. i have watched a lot of videos on it and sound is fine. Not the loudest, but i put that down to the quality and volume of the file. Videos recorded by the device are nice and loud.

Not really used it for music TBH.

Before I got mine I had the same feeling as everybody else who hadn't experienced it .... The speaker on the Note 2 is better than the S3 & the Note 3 is better than the Note 2 Period! Placement I think is perfect! In the cradle in my car, it is loud & clear! The Note 2's speaker is on the rear & got blocked by the cradle I set it in :p

Cheers, Jon

You don't buy a phone for its speaker. It isn't a hifi it's a WiFi. Use headphones or bluetooth it to a bose.

I saw on the phone above the number keys that it had an "extra volume" toggle. Don't know if it works on speaker or not......yet. Its while in call...not number keys

got it two weeks ago. i would return it if i still could. extremely disappointed in the speaker quality. old iPhone 4s was much better.
you can only return it for 14 days but i was out of town from day 8 onwards. If audio quality is important to you don't get this phone
